Treading [Conduct] 63 象曰:'A one-eyed man (who thinks that he) can see:'--he is not fit to see clearly. 'A lame man (who thinks that he can) tread well:'--one cannot walk along with him. 'The ill fortune of being bitten' arises from the place not being the proper one for him. 'A (mere) bravo acting the part of a great ruler:'--this is owing to his aims being (too) violent.
彖曰:Treading. Treading upon the tail of the tiger. It does not bite the man. Success.

友人副田虎六氏,從佐賀縣來告曰︰某所礦山,工學士最所稱賞,礦質極良,余將請政府之認可,著手採掘,請占其利害。筮得履之乾。

此卦剛健之乾父前進,柔弱之少女隨後,足下繼續先軰所開之礦山。

今此爻以陰居陽,氣強而智昏,其所計劃,必有與實際相齟齬著也,故謂之「眇能視,不足以有明也」。

凡商辦之業,與官辦之局,大異其趣。如彼礦山,固鄉間無賴人所集合,能設其規則,而統制得宜,其眾人服從;且指揮眾役,必用老成諳練之人,乃能成其業。若指揮不得其人,彼礦夫紛擾,非易箝制,懶惰虚喝,百弊叢生。

足下緃精明強幹,而于礦業,究屬生手,譬如行路,此程非熟悉之途,故爻辭又曰「跛能履,不足以與行也」。足下又謂「不入虎穴,焉得虎子」,是以決意擔當,但恐入虎穴而為虎所咥,其危險實可寒心。爻象如是,足下宜斷念也。

氏不信余占,用某學士為甲幹,使之赴礦山,為不諳實業,部下不服,終以不克成事而罷。
